The Lady Redhawks traveled to fellow first-place Adams (Adams and Athens each had one league loss) for a make up game to determine who would take the title. Athens won the first quarter 14 – 12 with Arianna Saracevic scoring on four strong drives for 9 points and Sophia Alexander notching her dependable five points with a 3 and a 2. The second quarter saw Athens spread out their scoring with baskets by Bree Rota, Carmen Cavataio, and Sarah Kesto, along with some free throws, and the Redhawks went into the half leading 22 – 17. The two teams stayed even through the third, and the Redhawks pulled away in the fourth, shooting 9 of 10 from the free throw line. The final score was 39 – 27. Adams was the girls’ toughest opponent for the season, and both teams played well for a great finish. Arianna led all scorers with 15 points, Sophia had 9, Carmen 6, Emily Cousino 4, Bree and Sarah 2 each, and Gia Leong 1. The Lady Redhawks finished with a record of 17 – 3. Coach Ken Gleason wants to thank the parents for all the time and energy they spent getting the girls to practice throughout the long basketball season and all the other resources they provide. He also wanted to thank Sarah Kesto and Carmen Cavataio who did a great job as the team’s captains, along with all the players who were a competitive and interesting group of young ladies to be around. Thanks for a great year!
