The Varsity Lady RedHawks had to travel to play @ Southfield A & T on Saturday. The Warriors were winners of 3 in a row, but our ladies came in with their own 5-game winning streak and holding onto 1st place with a 1 game lead in the division against the 3rd place team. Both teams came out energized and ready for this late season showdown. The RedHawks jumped out early taking a 7-3 lead, only to see the Warriors fight back and go on an 8-1 run to take the 1st quarter lead by the score of 11-8. The RedHawks fought back at the start of the 2nd quarter going on a 4-0 run to take a 12-11 lead only to see the home team go on a 6-0 run of their own to grab a 17-12 lead halfway through the quarter. From that point our ladies went on a 11-4 run to take the lead going into halftime by the score of 23-21. Gabby Bieniek with 7 points led the RedHawks in the 1st half followed by Ashasri Daram with 5 points & Kata Tasich with 4. The game was being played at a quick pace with each team gaining momentum with each lead change throughout the half. The 3rd quarter was much of the same as the Warriors outscored the RedHawks 13-6 to take a 34-29 lead heading into the pivotal 4th quarter. Again, the momentum changed hands as the RedHawks opened the 4th on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 34-34. The lead would change numerous times in the next few minutes until the RedHawks went on a 6-0 run in the last 1:30 of the game to pull out the win by the score of 47-41 and keep control of the top spot in the division. The big key of the game was the Lady RedHawks outrebounding the home team 43-21 to lead to the win. Gabby Bieniek led the Lady RedHawks with (14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists & 2 steals) and Kata Tasich added (8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists & 2 steals).
