In the second of back-to-back night games our Lady RedHawks welcomed in the visitors from the Catholic League in Cranbrook Kingswood to Athens gymnasium. The non-league game was sandwiched in between 2 league affairs this week and could have easily been a letdown game. But the Lady RedHawks wouldn't let that happen tonight. After watching Cranbrook score the 1st bucket of the game and grab an early 6-4 lead, the RedHawks and the Cranes struggled to score points for the next 4 minutes. At that point, Kata Tasich hits back-to-back 3-pointers and the RedHawks were on their way to a 15-6 1st quarter lead and were never threatened in the game. The second quarter was an up and down affair with very little scoring, but the Lady RedHawks still were able to outscore the visitors 6-4 to take a 21-10 lead into halftime. Both teams managed to score a bit more in the 3rd quarter with the home team outscoring the visitors 12-7 to take a 33-17 lead heading into the 4th quarter led by Gabby Bieniek's 8 points. The RedHawks finished off the game by outscoring Cranbrook 19-8 in the 4th quarter to win the game going away by the score of 52-25. All 14 players played liberally throughout the game with 9 of them scoring. The RedHawks were led by Freshman Gabby Bieniek (10 points, 6 rebounds & 1 steal) and Sophomore Center Kaitlyn Piggott (8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks & 2 assists). Other contributors were, Erica Obra (7 points, 3 assists & 2 rebounds), both Kata Tasich (2 boards & 2 steals) and Jaya Jackson (2 boards & 1 steal) had 6 points apiece, Katie Malone (4 points, 4 boards, 4 steals & 3 assists) & Hailey Fellin (3 points, 3 boards, 2 steals & 1 assist). A nice win for our ladies that raised their overall record to 12-4 on the season. Keep up the good work ladies.
