In the finally of the evening the Lady Varsity teams took to the hardwood with the pomp and circumstance of a varsity football game. The band was playing as they came marching into the gym followed by the cheerleaders and the atmosphere in the building was ecstatic. The gym was rocking with anticipation of the big-league encounter with both varsity teams pumped and ready to go. The opening tip goes to the RedHawks where Kata hits a 3 to open the scoring and Kaitlyn Piggott follows with a layup to take an early 5-0 lead. A lead they would never relinquish in the game. Both teams came out playing aggressive man to man defenses and pressing, but the RedHawks switched out of their press and ended up taking a 15-11 lead after 1-quarter. Kata with 6 points and Kaitlyn with 4 points led the ladies early. The Lady RedHawks jumped on the Pioneers in the second quarter starting with a 7-0 run and outscored the Pioneers 11-7 in the quarter to take a 26-18 lead heading into halftime. In the 3rd quarter Harper Woods opened up the scoring with a free throw, but then the RedHawks went on a 10-0 run to increase their lead to 36-19 before the Pioneers scored again. But the RedHawks kept the pressure on and finished the quarter with a 42-25 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Kaitlyn had 8 points with some awesome catches under the basket and Katie Malone had 4 points. A 6-0 run by the Pioneers to start the 4th quarter was short lived as the RedHawks matched the home team basket for basket for the 49-38 victory. The Lady RedHawks were led by Kaitlyn Piggott with (14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks & 1 assist) who said, "we played together today as a team and played up to our potential. We are only going to get better." Other key contributors were, Kata Tasich (9 points & 3 rebounds), Katie Malone (8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals & 4 assists), and both Ashasri Daram (2 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal & 1 block) & Gabby Bieniek (4 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal) each had 6 points apiece. "We looked into the post more today with Kaitlyn and had some very nice entry passes that led to easy buckets" added Annabelle Beaubien who also contributed (6 boards, 3 steals & 3 assists). Another nice team win. The victory moves the Lady RedHawks record to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The ladies travel to Warren Woods Tower on Tuesday to play @ 5:30, an early starting time. Great game ladies and keep working hard.
