The Lady Redhawks faced an aggressive, trapping Harper Woods defense and made adjustments to come away with their highest-scoring game of the season, winning 55 - 36. Unlike most of their contests thus far, the Athens girls couldn't rely on their shooting and had to turn to a passing and lay up strategy. The team showed remarkable offensive consistency throughout, scoring 12 points in each of the first two quarters, 16 in the third quarter, and 15 in the fourth. The Redhawks were led by Sophia Alexander (5 of 7 from the line) and Arianna Saracevic, each with 14 points. Emily Cousino scored 11, Charlotte Riffe 8, Bree Rota 6, and Sarah Kesto 2. The team is continuing to receive good news with players moving off the injured list onto the active roster. Carmen Cavataio, set to return next game, thought the difference in the game came down to effort and consistency. “I thought we played hard and never gave up… always getting back on defense, always looking to pass on offense. I think we won with our stamina and perseverance.” Irsa Fjolla, one of the team’s defensive standouts, thought the game was a good test. “It was nice to play a team that was going to play us tougher and put fouls on us. I thought it forced us to play better.” Sarah Kesto, playing for the first time in nearly two months agreed. “It was a pretty good game, a pretty hard game, not in the sense of them being a better team than us, but in the sense of them having more aggression than us.” On getting the chance to be again on the court, “It’s ten times better than being on the bench. I’m pretty grateful to be back.”
