Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to Lady RedHawks Basketball. Our JV Ladies opened up with a Saturday matinee game against the visitors from Walled Lake Central in the annual crossover game with the Lake Valley Conference. Not only did we welcome the Vikings to Athens Gymnasium, we also were able to get back a handful of players from their bout with the flu that is still going strong around Michigan. Both teams looked like the holiday layoff was rough as they both struggled to score in the 1st quarter, but the Lady RedHawks were able to lead 4-2 after one. The second quarter was more like the 2025 RedHawks as they jumped all over the Vikings defensively to take a 22-4 halftime lead. 8 out of 12 Lady RedHawks tallied points in the 1st half led by Ella Odgers 5 points and Sienna Brown's 4 points. After halftime the RedHawks sealed the game with an 11-0 3rd quarter run to take a commanding 29-point lead and finished the 4th by outscoring W. L. Central by the score of 10-4 for a 43-8 victory. 11-12 players scored in the game for the Lady RedHawks with Lily Greaves leading the way with (9 points & 5 steals) in less than half a game. Other contributors were Ella Odgers (6 points & 3 assists), Sienna Brown (5 points & 8 rebounds), Madhu Battula (4 points, 4 assists & 2 rebounds) who said, " we communicated better as a team on the defensive end that led us to steals and easy baskets", Madelyn Odgers (4 points, 10 rebounds & 2 steals), Briony Esper added that, "we were more aggressive and our skills showed out more throughout the game" had (4 points) and Aleen Ahmad with 7 boards. The win improved the RedHawks record to 3-3. Good game ladies and welcome back. Keep working hard and good luck in 2026!
