Bree Rota summed up the girl’s JV B’s first game back after break in terms most Michiganders would understand: “We have some potholes that need to be filled, but we did pretty well for being off two weeks.” The Redhawks took advantage of a better roster and ran and shot their way to a 45 -9 win. Said Mallory Colussi, “I thought we adjusted to being back together really well. Some of the turnovers on offense could have been prevented, but not too bad for coming off a break.” Mallory explained the team’s success when going up against zones and how much the team relies on their offensive rebounding. “I think we’re really good against the zone because almost all of us are good shooters, and a zone opens up jumpers and 3’s. We rely a lot on our bigs. Arianna and Charlotte are super aggressive, especially for 50 / 50 balls, like when it could be anyone’s.” Maryana Mansour added, “It was good to get a break and to re-start.” Coach Ken Gleason noted the correlation between the good practices the team had been having and the game performance. “I felt pretty good going into the game just because of the attendance we have had for the practices since coming back. Our girls are super responsible, but at the end of the day, you are your numbers. You have well-attended, good practices, and you like your chances when the game comes around.” The girls were led in scoring by Sophia Alexander 17 points (3-3’s, one beautiful reverse lay up), Emily Cousino 10 points (2-3’s - one banked, still counts), Charlotte Riffe 8 points, Mallory Colussi 4 points (one sweet floater), and Bree Rotta, Arianna Saracevic, and Irsa Fjolla each contributed a basket. The girls benefited from two great plays where they finished quarters with a basket right before time expired.
