JV Lady Redhawks Romp Over Birmingham Seaholm

After a tough loss @ Lake Orion on Tuesday our ladies welcomed in the Maples of Birmingham Seaholm to Athens Gymnasium. With the close loss, the Lady Redhawks showed a more distinct focus and energy tonight and destroyed the Maples with a total team effort by the score of 58-15. Even with a low scoring 1st quarter by both teams, 6-3, this game was never in doubt. The Redhawk's had 21 rebounds the 1st quarter with 15 of those being offensive boards, but they could not finish with their putbacks. That all ended in the 2nd quarter as our ladies outscored the Maples 16-8 to take a 22-11 lead into halftime. Madelyn Odgers had 7-1st half point to lead all scorers, while Sienna Brown and Lily Greaves each added 4 points apiece. But, the star of the first half was Sienna Young, who was making her 1st start of the season. She had 8-1st quarter rebounds all on the offensive end and her energy and enthusiasm ran rampant over the rest of the team that led to a strong 1st half showing. Sienna said, "our team energy was strong from the start and we worked together more as a team than 5 separate individuals". In the second half the Lady Redhawks effort and focus remained strong as they totally crushed the Maples by outscoring them by the score of 36-4 after halftime. 11 of 12 players scored in the game, led by Madelyn Odgers (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals & 2 blocks) who said, "our offense was more efficient tonight and our effort was much better". Other key contributors were, Faith Cotton (9 points, 2 boards, 1 steal, 2 assists and 1 block), Samantha Kolpak (9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals & 2 assists), Lily Greaves (6 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and a block) and Freshman Sophia Alexander playing only 1 quarter had (6 points on 2-3 pointers, 1 steal, 1 rebound and 2 assists). Sienna Brown contributed (4 boards, 3 steals & 2 blocks) and Madhu Battula had (5 boards, 3 assists & 1 block), But, the biggest star of the night was Sienna Young who only scored 4 points tonight but brought immense energy and effort to the team with 11 rebounds and awesome hustle. Faith added, "as a team we played with better fundamentals which allowed our individual talents to shine ". "We played with better intensity defensively which carried over to our offense and gave us confidence to take more aggressive chances". The win evens the ladies record to 2-2 on the year with a home game on Monday December 22nd @ 5:30 against Livonia Stevenson.
