In the final game of the evening @ Lake Orion, both Lady Varsity teams took to the court in a non-league affair. Both teams came out aggressive defensively as they both struggled to score throughout the quarter. The Dragons opened the scoring with 3 minutes left in the opening quarter only to see Katie Malone come down and get fouled making 2 free throws to tie the game. But, after not scoring for the 1st-5 minutes of the quarter the points started to come fast and furious as driving layups, putbacks and 3 pointers started to fall. At the end of the quarter, the Dragons held a 14-9 1st quarter lead with all 23 points being scored within the last 3 minutes. In the second quarter the Lady Dragons clamped down defensively holding the Redhawks to 4-2nd quarter points while scoring 11 themselves to take a 25-13 lead into halftime. In the 3rd quarter, it was our Lady Redhawks turn to clamp down defensively as they held the Dragons to 5-3rd quarter points while scoring 15 of their own to cut the lead to 1 heading into the final stanza with the score of 30-29. Kata Tasich had 11 points in the quarter while Gabby Bieniek and Kaitlyn Piggott each contributing 4 points apiece. Throughout the 3rd quarter, our Lady Redhawks were only able to tie the score, but at the start of the 4th, they finally took the lead 32-30 with a 3-point play by Kaitlyn with an assist from Kata. The lead was short lived though as Lake Orion came down and scored to take the lead back for good. Both teams struggled to score while both defenses stayed aggressive. At the end, the Dragons made 7 of 9 free throws to close out the Redhawks and win the game by the score of 39-35. The ladies were led by Kata Tasich (13 points, 3 steals & 2 rebounds), Kaitlyn Piggott (7 points, 5 rebounds & 2 blocks), Gabby Bieniek with 6 points and Katie Malone with 4 points. The loss dropped their record to 2-1 in the early season. Tough loss ladies and keep working hard.
