The Lady Redhawks made the long trip out to Lake Orion on Tuesday for a tripleheader against the Dragons. In the first game of the evening the Freshman ladies took to the court with the Redhawks jumping out to a 7-6 lead after one. Sophia Alexander scored 5 points in the quarter. The second quarter was the Lady Redhawks downfall as they got into foul trouble to some key players and were outscored 18-5 to trail at halftime by the score of 24-12. In the 3rd quarter the ladies started to rally and outscored the Dragons 11-6 to cut the lead to 7 points heading into the 4th. Arianna Saracevic scored 3 points in the quarter to lead a balanced scoring attack while 4 other players contributed a bucket. The ladies started out the 4th on a strong note and pulled within 4 points, but couldn't get any closer. Sophia Alexander led the ladies with 10 points, Arianna Saracevic had 5 points, both Carmen Cavataio & Emily Cousino had 4 points and Mallory Colussi chipped in 3 points. The Redhawks record fell to 1-2 with a home game Thursday against West Bloomfield @ 4:00. Afterwards, Maryana had compliments for her teammate Sophia Alexander. "I really look up to Sophia. I feel like she's an amazing player, like she's crazy good. Her passes are clean... I feel like she barely makes any mistakes." Coach Gleason was also pleased with the play of Noelle Apahidean. "I was a little surprised at how well Noelle played, to be honest. I think she's still developing in her lay ups and ballhandling, but talk about getting the most out of what you got. It wasn't just the effort; it was that she was making plays, both on the offensive and defensive side, to put us in a position to win. She took care of the ball and got to the free throw line (2 of 6 shooting); she forced tie-ups and made steals. Very competitive game." Coach Gleason also praised the team effort. "Lake Orion is a very well-coached team. They have a strong defensive identity, and the team seems like they are all on the same page. They do a lot of little things right, like chasing down loose balls and getting them with two hands. Still, at the end of the day, we won three of the quarters. We do a better coaching job in that rough second quarter, and it's a close win rather than a close loss."
