Troy, MI — Troy United continued its strong run of play Saturday night, earning a convincing 6–1 win over Thumb Area Legion on home ice. The opening period set a physical tone, with both teams battling hard throughout. Troy United opened the scoring when Kaiser Ascencio (Athens High School) deked a defenseman and finished the play to give TU the early lead. The offense surged in the second period. Tyler Jewell (Troy High School) doubled the lead with a quick snap shot off a feed from Josh Schmidt (THS). Alex Lowry (AHS) followed with a power-play goal, and Yuto Kuwabara (THS) added another, finishing a setup from Schmidt to push the advantage to 4–0. Thumb Area Legion broke through in the third period, scoring off a rebound to get on the board. Troy United responded as Ascencio struck again, netting a shorthanded goal while working with Joey Clark (THS). Clark later sealed the game with a tip-in goal to secure the 6-1 final. Defensively, Quentin Gatto (THS) turned in a standout performance, providing lockdown defense throughout the game and helping limit Legion’s scoring chances. The boys hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to Farmington for an important OAA league matchup. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
