ROCHESTER, MI — Troy United traveled to Rochester to take on league rival Stoney Creek in a high-energy Oakland Activities Association matchup, emerging with a dominant 7–2 victory to complete the season sweep of the Cougars. Stoney Creek’s student section packed the boards behind the Troy United net, bringing early pressure and energy. After back-to-back penalties against TU to open the game, Senior Gavin Blaeske (Athens High School) buried the game’s first goal to silence the building. Stoney Creek briefly answered with a breakaway tally to even the score, but Senior Alternate Captain Ben Dumas (AHS) restored the lead with a bar-down snapshot, sending Troy United into the first intermission up 2–1. The second period belonged entirely to Troy United. Captain Joey Clark (Troy High School) opened the frame with a breakaway goal that ignited a surge of offense. Troy netted five unanswered goals in the period, including: a power-play goal by Braeden Blaske (AHS), a goal by Yuto Kuwabara (THS), and two impressive goals from Alternate Captain Kai Ascencio (AHS). Stoney Creek managed a power-play goal late in the period, but the Cougars couldn’t build momentum. The third period featured shutdown defensive hockey from Troy United, anchored by Quentin Gatto (THS) and Aaron Stinson (THS), along with a steady performance in net from Sophomore goaltender Noah Dumas (AHS). Their effort closed the door on any comeback attempt and secured the 7–2 final. The team returns home Saturday night, November 22, to face Lakes Area United at 5:15 p.m. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
